Our Mission
The Mission of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of America Rescue (SBTCA Rescue) is to make sure no Staffordshire Bull Terrier is homeless, left in a shelter, and if possible, no owner surrenders them to a shelter. SBTCA Rescue maintains a nationwide volunteer base to ensure dogs are pulled from shelters and placed in foster homes and re-homed to approved, responsible homes quickly. SBTCA Rescue ensures that all dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations prior to placement. In addition to an application, interview, and home visit prior to adopting a dog we have all new homes sign our adoption promise. Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue are proud at what we have accomplished. The most important thing to any organization is the people and in our case it is our volunteers and financial supporters. Without dedicated volunteers and financial support we could not do what we do. We acknowledge that to be a caretaker of the breed one must support all facets and that includes breeding, education, responsible dog ownership, as well as rescue and community involvement.
Donations
We are always grateful for any donations made to help in the rescue needs of this beloved breed. However Paypal does not let the giver leave a note with their donation so if you choose to donate, please drop us an email at rescue@sbtca.com and let us know if you are donating in memory of a specific dog, a specific person or on behalf of a specific organization. In this way we make sure the appropriate people can be notified or acknowledged.
Adoption Fees
Our current adoption fee for a dog is $400.00

Donations and how to help.
Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue is always in need of volunteers. If you’d like to be involved, but you are unsure what you can do, we’d like to help you out. We have compiled this list of ways ANYONE can help. Without our volunteers, SBTCA Rescue could not exist, and no matter how small or how large your contribution is, it is invaluable to us!
Here is a list of the ways YOU can help make a difference in the life of a homeless Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
- Foster a Stafford in need. SBTCA Rescue is always looking for quality foster homes. Please contact us to see what’s involved to decide if fostering might be for you.
- Go to your local shelter and become a friend of the personnel. Educate the shelter about what SBTCA Rescue does and how important it is to contact us if they find a Stafford in their shelter.
- Make a positive ID of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in a shelter. It is almost impossible to identify Bull Breeds from a photo and even video can be misleading so being able to take some time to go see a dog in person and take photos helps us start the process.
- Help with home visits or referral qualification.
- Transportation for a Stafford being adopted or fostered can be a large challenge with dogs and volunteers and new homes being all over the country. Stepping up to transport can make a big difference.
- Donate bowls and food. Feeding one Staffordshire Bull Terrier can be expensive; the costs of feeding many can be astronomical.
- Donate a wire crate, safe nyla-bones and pressed rawhide, dog beds, leashes and collars.
- Make a monetary donation. SBTCA RESCUE does charge an adoption fee for our Staffordshire Bull Terriers, but there are many instances where these fees do not even come close to covering all the expenses associated with a particular dog. You can even donate money to a particular dog or for a particular purpose. There are also times when you can make your donation directly to the Veterinarian for a particular purpose.
- Offer your professional services, if you work in an area outside of pets and can offer your expertise in the area you are trained please let us know.
- Donate dog-related items for auctions and raffles at our Specialty and Supported shows.
- Offer to assist in a fundraiser at an SBTCA Supported event or represent SBTCA Rescue at local RDO or Breed Awareness or Meet the Breed events.
What do I do if I can no longer keep my Staffordshire Bull Terrier?
If you are reading this, it is likely you are facing some very difficult decisions for yours as well as your Staffordshire bull terrier’s future. We know this is difficult and even sending an email to admit you must give up your companion can be heart breaking. We can offer some options and even a shoulder to cry on. Our goal is help you and ensure that your Staffordshire Bull Terrier has the best chance for a qualified forever home.
First, contact your breeder to see if they will take the dog back or help you re-home the dog. Your breeder is your first line contact. If you have a contract with the breeder, pull it out and read it carefully for instructions on how to deal with this situation.
If you cannot locate your breeder or if your breeder is unable to help you, please contact SBTCA RESCUE. It would be our hope that you can keep the dog while we post the dog on our website and qualify homes. If you are unable to keep your dog due to your circumstances we will do everything in our power to find a suitable foster home quickly. Keep in mind that resources are stretched thin and we may need your help to find a temporary place for your dog while we find a new home.
Before your Stafford is placed or turned over to SBTCA Rescue you will be required to sign an owner surrender form. We will also need any health documents, and registration papers, contracts and anything else related to this dog. We would like the dog to be spayed or neutered and current on all vaccinations and heart worm negative.
What not to do!
Please, do NOT take your Staffordshire Bull Terrier to an animal shelter. Please do not give the dog to a friend or neighbor unless you are positive they know the dog well already and love your Staffordshire Bull Terrier and are well aware of the special needs and requirements of our breed and your dog. Please remember that you may have a contract with your breeder that requires you to contact them prior to placing your dog in a new home. If you feel that you have a good home for your dog please make sure to give them the sbtca.com website and rescue@sbtca.com email in case things don’t work out we want to be there for your dog.
Please do NOT advertise in the paper or any of the internet sites unless you plan to qualify new homes carefully. There are too many people out there who are looking for free or cheap dogs for all the wrong reasons. We can help steer you in the right direction and assist in the approval process.
Remember that your dog’s best chance at a new happy life is you. We know it’s probably one of the hardest things you will ever have to do but with SBTCA Rescue helping we can make this a transition that you can live with and feel good about.
Domestic Violence Situations:
If you, a friend or relative are in a situation involving domestic violence and have to leave suddenly, there is help for your Staffordshire Bull Terrier. We realize many times there is no time to call and ask rescue for help so we are giving you the option of dropping your Staffordshire Bull Terrier off at any Veterinarian and giving the office the SBTCA RESCUE email rescue@sbtca.com Tell them to call and assure them SBTCA RESCUE will take responsibility for your Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Provide them with any and all information about your dogs if it is not your regular Veterinarian. It is also important to provide them with your dog’s names, age/s and breeder. SBTCA RESCUE will take it from there. By taking the Staffordshire Bull Terrier to a Veterinarian’s office, you are assuring rescue can get their hands on them and to safety. If you take them to a shelter, make sure to contact us as soon as possible so we can get in contact with the shelter and make an attempt to pull the dog.
There is no shame in doing whatever you have to do to get yourself, possibly your children and your dog’s out of danger and no questions will be asked. If at a later time you are able to call SBTCA RESCUE that is fine but we do realize many times people have nowhere to go except a shelter designed for these situations. You may not be allowed any outside contact for your own safety.
If you wish to be proactive contact us early and we can get set up and ready. Whatever you do, do not leave your dog behind.
There is help for you and your Staffordshire Bull Terrier. You just have to take that first step.
You can contact SBTCA RESCUE email Rescue@sbtca.com We are prompt at returning email.
You are not alone in this and we can and will help.
